Theres been an electronic, blood bath or more like an electrostatic bath at the normally peaceful liberal arts College of St. Rose in upstate New York. I read about this yesterday and couldnt resist sharing it with you. A disgruntled MBA alumni student goes on a rampage at his alma mater and takes it out on 59 defenseless computers. It happened in February but was reported two days ago by ZDNet which got its hands on the court filings. He supposedly got an MBA in 2017, but still had an ax to grind, the story doesnt give a motive. But we know how he did it, he used a device called the USB Killer, heard of it, me neither, which literally zaps the life out of any unprotected electronic device that has a USB port - lets learn a little bit more about this strange tool. Welcome to the ViralML Show, my name is Manuel Amunategui. I am the author of a few books including Defense Against The Dark Digital Attacks where I share the tools I use to protect both my identity, location, and from hardware failures - like USB killer attacks. ou can find this book and my other ones on Amazon, simply enter my first and last name in the Amazon search bar. Please, signup for my newsletter - the upper right corner where youll get advance access to my material - - This video will be filed under State of the Industry. How does it work? Well, its actually very sad - cue some sad music please ( Careless Decision.mp3 ) Its like the Boston Analytics all over again... remember this - well this made me cry! or almost, def. made me uncomfortable - theyre so human looking... See the USB has a condenser, its actually going to ask the computer to charge the condensers before zapping it back? Well, according to one manufacturers site When plugged into a device, the USB Killer rapidly charges its capacitors from the USB power lines. When the device is charged, -200VDC is discharged over the lines of the host device. This charge/discharge cycle is repeated many times per second until the USB Killer is removed. https://usbkill.com/ Here is one of these types of units Simply put: used on unprotected equipment, the USB Killer instantly and permanently disables the target hardware. This does raise an important issue, right, - do we need to seal our USB ports with, i dont know super gluer??? CATEGORY:StateOfIndustry
