Fakes and Deep Fakes - What's Going On? What's The Impact?

Introduction

Lets talk fake and deep fakes videos. Where are we at in terms of capabilities and how is it affecting people so far. Lets also think about how bad seeds may look towards these tools to manipulate us. Welcome to the ViralML show, my name is Manuel Amunategui. sign up for my newsletter and subscribe and give the show some fat thumbs up!! This show will be classified under...scre Turns out the video of Nancy hasnt anything to do with deep fakes, it was just slowed down! Another weak political meme. It only reinforces peoples point of views, nothing more. But what was more interesting was that some complained that Facebook should remove it - they refused, it is all political games and it is free speech. So, as expceted this comes out. Based on a 2017 mea culpa for privacy violation number whatever there were so many and so many empty apologies its hard to keep track. Yup, and Facebook, of course, you didnt remove it unless they wanted to look like an ass. But we dont need any of those weak fakes which are just a purely voice over anyway when you have these real gems. But there are really deep fakes out there. Complex alterations made using machine learning and models like GAN - generative adversarial network. Here is a great series. Deepfakes from the mysterious Ctrl Shift Face transforms Bill Hader into Pacino and many more. This is becoming interesting. Think about impleications! Of course, if you are an impersonator, there goes one more job down the automation sinkhole. But is already changing acting, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCBTZh41Ris think about copyright issues, revenge porn, etc. And people splicing themselves out of crime scenes, or saying that an actual crime scene was fabricated... on an on. Some say block chains could help, but short of putting every piece of media on the digital ledge, good luck with that. But the point that I want to bring home with this video is the visceral reaction we have watching fakes. Something to think about. It doesnt matter if we think its a fake or not, comes down, well always have the tools to determine if its fake or not, we saw these before with doctoring of pictures using photoshop, photocopying machines, CGI, greenscreens, etc. With a little time and perspective, we can figure out its a fake. but that instant reaction - thats what worries me. What kind of mob behavior do we risk from a powerful fake? In the heat of the emotional reaction, can it make us do stupid things? It has been proven that advertising does affect our consumer behaviors, can this affect our base judgments? I have often talked about my reaction to Boston analytics beating of their robots and how it made me feel bad to see the controlled, oppressed being beaten by their masters. A lot of us felt that way to the point when this fake came out: One person stated, I felt so bad before I know it was a human being beaten up, then I didnt care anymore... Anyway, if you want more, look up deep fakes or GAN models, and youll go down a fun and weird and hopefully safe rabbit hole. CATEGORY:StateOfIndustry
